  Gait & Running Analysis

What is it?

Physioworks Physiotherapy uses the world renowned TOG GaitScan System to assess your alignment (biomechanics) in standing and walking.

By walking across the system's uniquely designed force plate, the computer records the forces and timings across your feet, giving detailed information on your biomechanics and walking style. Using this data, we can determine if your biomechanics are a contributing factor to an existing or future injury. For those clients who are regular exercisers we also offer a Running Analysis package. This includes, the GaitScan and in addition, a slow motion video analysis of your running technique using Silicon Coach - the latest injury prevention/sports coaching software. Your technique is analysed by our Chartered Physiotherapists allowing us to judge how efficient your body and your running style is in absorbing the additional forces that running creates. In addition to your GaitScan print-outs, you will receive a CD copy of your running footage.

How does it work?

  • If a problem is identified significant enough to be a contributing factor to current or future pain and injury, there are three courses of action that can be taken and you will be guided as to which one/s are most suitable to your problem. These are:

  • Changes in running technique
  • Exercise drills to stabilise feet, knees and hips
  • Orthotics (inserts) which provide physical support to correct biomechanical abnormalities.  The TOG GaitScan System provides us with all the data to make you a custom-made pair which are far more advanced and effective than off-the-shelf versions.
